I traveled west
across the Plains,
and first saw these flowers in Missouri
where the Ozarks meet the prairie,
and last saw them in Colorado
where the prairie meets the Rockies.
I don’t know their genus or taxonomy,
but for me, they are the flower
of the liminal places.
