In 2010, there were 271,024 lane miles of roads in Florida, equal to about 985,540 acres (1,539 square miles) of contiguous asphalt — a parking lot nearly the size of Hernando, Citrus and Sumter counties combined.

One wonders how big this metaphorical parking lot would be, if we included actual parking lots, driveways and building footprints, too.
